Re: Popular pairings in your fandom that you just don't like?

I agree with that. I generally don't ship Doctor/companion ships. It especially is true for Rose given her particular age. I shipped Doctor/Donna for a while because she told him off and didn't take orders or adore him the same way. But I think now that there are still the power dynamics there.

The Doctor is hard to ship. I do ship him with River, I ship him with the Master/Missy, and that's about it.

I don't ship him with Master/Missy because there are other ways in which that is fucked up but that at least doesn't have the huge power dynamics at play.

And River *almost* could have worked if our initial impression of her had been accurate, aka an independent time traveler. But then they made her backstory all revolve around the Doctor and turned the whole thing into a mess and all the bad power dynamics came back.

I just generally don't ship the Doctor at all, all his relationships are doomed anyway so I'd rather not get invested. I'd rather see more companion/other companion.

It is fucked up, I just like that kind of fucked up. I don't ship it as a healthy relationship, and I avoid fics written like that. But I liked messed up hero/villain ships a lot. I love their dynamic. Equal opposites. That's what makes them great for me.

I get that, I have trouble with messed up ships personally but every once in a while I do see characters where I say, "They just need to hate fuck." It's not my usual dynamic but I can definitely see it.
