They're not actually in conflict, they're two sides of the same coin.

Humility is really understanding that every human being is of equal value to every other human being. It doesn't matter if you're the very best at [X thing] in the entire world, or the wealthiest and most powerful person in the world, you are still just...a person, just like everyone else. No one's life is worth more than anyone else's (no matter what the world says), everyone has the same intrinsic value, integrity, and dignity, so keep your ego in check and don't let your success or your position in life blind you to this.

Self-esteem is the same thing, from another angle. No one's life is worth less than anyone else's (no matter what the world says), so you have just as much value, integrity and dignity as everyone else. You matter, regardless of what you've accomplished or what your position in society is or however other people treat you.

I really like this post, and the idea that both are good qualities not only for the individual but also for the people around them. Also you don't confuse self-esteem with narcissism, which is neat!
