Have there been good adaptations of Death Note? I mean, the anime was superb if you count that as an adaptation of the manga (though it's almost scene-for-scene identical). But the Japanese live-action movies were terrible. The spin-off novels were okay. idk what else there is, but I'm skeptical.

I mean the anime is an adaptation, even if it's very close to the manga XD
The crappy live-action was unsurprising, I mean most Japanese anime-based live action is terrible. There were the stage plays which have some good songs, but overall I think it's uninspired.

I guess I would say that except for the excellent anime there's nothing, but an excellent anime is enough for me.
If the Japanese can make a bad DN movie, let the Americans make one too XD at least it looks to me like it'll be bad in a somewhat interesting way...

Oh I forgot there were stage plays! I always forget that Japan does that. Any way to watch a recording of the stage plays, perchance?

dang, I know I'd found clips on youtube, and actually one version of the entire thing filmed - because I watched L's death scene and Light's opening song (and snootily decided that the version in my fanmusical was better), but I can't find it now :(((
