Re: What knockoff brands are as good as the original?

I've honestly never found a knockoff that was exactly the same, I feel like people who say that are liars. Knockoffs are always different somehow.

Some I like though, like I enjoy knock off cheez-its better then chees-its.

Some stuff like frozen veggies it's all literally packaged in the same plant. They have giant hoppers full and just load the different packaging in. So your Food Lion Frozen Corn and your Green Giant Frozen Corn were all from the exact same giant batch.

I could see that happening but I just rarely buy frozen veggies and I've honestly never even heard of food lion.

I used to believe that just about everything was a repackage but then I did some honest comparisons and really, for just about everything I bought there was always a difference (or I couldn't find an equivalent.) I believe you that it happens I just don't think it's as common as people told me it was when I was younger.

Food Lion's just a grocery store chain I was using for the generic option. I've seen the same line different packaging happen in How Its Made type shows too.

It's also important to remember just how much the placebo effect works on your sense of taste. There's been multiple experiments where they do things like take the exact same commercial cookies, divide them up into 'regular' and 'low fat' and ask testers to rate them and they consistently rated the same cookies in the low fat labels as worse. That's why blind taste tests are so important.

I honestly wasn't only thinking of food though, there are certain things where I can tell just by using a product, smelling it and feeling the texture that it's different (okay that can work for food as well.) I buy off brand paper towels all the time, and they are constructed differently then name brand (often thinner), at the end of the day I don't care because it's a paper towel, but it's different.

And I've never really looked for differences in off brand especially since I did believe for so long that it was the same, but in some brands it is really obvious, it's not just my taste.

Oh yeah, things like paper towels are totally different. Shoes too, and clothing, etc.

Stuff like dried pasta though, there's not too much you can do differently with regular spaghetti.
