People overshare on the internet. It's a thing. Some people do it in different ways than others do. Some people go much further than you or I would. But people regularly put all kinds of private information online and tell the world. It seems to be how the internet works, making people want to share more about themselves, where you'd think they'd share less.

Heh, remember back in the early days of the internet, it was all DON'T EVER GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION EVER!!!!!!, and now it's pretty much "O hai, here I am on my vacation, daydrinking poolside at Sunshine Motel in Boca Raton, just had a bikini wax, can u tell? Here for another week lol, hope I have the time of my life!!!1"

Yeah, I saw a funny thing related to that on tumblr recently.

Past: "Don't tell people your personal information on the internet! And don't get into cars with strangers!"

Current: "Summon strangers from the internet for rides" (Uber etc)

Made me think how opposite the internet and RL are for oversharing. Like RL I wouldn't consider it weird to give out information about my hometown, or family, or my real name, but I'm not likely to talk about my sexuality or mental issues. Online? I will give you vague geographical location and a fake name, but I have no problem with sharing that I'm bi and have ADD and anxiety.
