Re: Teach me about makeup?

I'm not a lipstick person, but would you say Sephora has other products that are "worth it"?

I don't really know if drugstore makeup works for me or not, since I've never used anything else! I don't think my makeup is advanced enough either way. It seems like a liquid liner/mascara doesn't vary much, but my skin tends to be oily and I can be a little red/blotchy at times, so I'd love to find a way to look more smooth and fresh. But honestly, even drugstore makeup is so freaking expensive.

I think the only non-lipstick item I've ever bought from Sephora was a small bottle of hand cream, so while I'm sure their other products are worth it, I can't say so with any air of authority.

And, while we're discussing makeup and I'm here, I might as well pimp one of my favorite independent businesses, https://shirocosmetics.com/. I'm obsessed with their eyeshadow. They do a color of the month and every June, they put up the colors from the last 12 months where you can buy them one last time and then only the three best sellers stay in the store. I have God only knows how many eyeshadows from them and two lipsticks, and I have no complaints.

I know Maybelline Fit Me concealer comes in a mattifying formula, and it's a cult favorite. I'm dry though, so I can't tell you whether it's any good.

Setting your foundation (if it's a liquid) is also a bit of a must if you have oily skin, or so I've heard from many a source.

If your skin tends to be oily, then a pressed powder foundation is probably a good bet for you. But I have no idea what brands are good, and in my very limited experience with pressed powder foundations, you don't get anywhere near the coverage of a liquid foundation. Applying a pressed powder foundation is quick and easy, though, and you don't have to set it with a setting powder.

Also, I know there are lots of primers out there that are good for mattifying oily skin. Maybe even some cheap ones, IDK.

I'm not saying do all of these at once, but trying one of these elements and seeing what happens could be a start.
