Yes and no. I'm 50 and I certainly didn't picture being alone at this age and fearing growing old(er) alone, so that's painful. On the other hand I have a good job in a field I actually wanted to work in since college and I have my own apartment so those are good things.

I also wish I'd spent more time working on my language skills. I especially wish my Spanish weren't so rusty. I also wish I'd done more writing, maybe tried to get something published. It's hard for me to accept that it's never going to happen now.

Dude, it's never too late for anything. Write, aim to get published! Take some Spanish classes maybe. There's no rule to say you have to stop doing things!

I do write fanfic and I try to write originals but I haven't had anything yet that I thought was ever nearly good enough to be published. But you're right - I'm not going to stop writing.

(The truth is that at this point I'm more interested in learning German than Spanish, but when I graduated college I was fluent in Spanish and now... not so much. But you're still right, I don't have to stop doing things.)

As one of my professors pointed out: A River Runs Through It marked the author's debut at seventysomething, so there's always hope for the rest of us *g*

You're welcome! I'm not an aspiring author myself, but I honestly had a bit of an epiphany when he said that - and I've found a lot of comfort in it too. It's reassuring to know that you don't have to start early to be great.

Ask away! I was indeed in the Pokemon fandom then, though back in 2001 I may still have been known as TeaRoses.

Oh geez, I do remember that name - but nothing else than the name, I'm afraid. Still, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one from those days who's still around :)

If you remember that name you probably remember me from a long-dead Team Rocket message board. But maybe it's just as well you don't remember anything else because I did some embarrassing things there. Then again I do some embarrassing things now.

Yeah, that'd be the place I hung out when I was first getting into fandom. Black/blue design? I'm sure we've all done embarassing things on the internet. I for one am relieved to know that most people from back then probably didn't notice me, or if they did, didn't remember *g*

Well, in my case part of my regret is because it's directly linked to my job... so my lack of language ability is actively holding me back, which sucks.

But it sounds like some things definitely worked out well for you :) and hey, it's never too late to write that book!

And yeah, as bad as I feel sometimes there are still a lot of good sides to my life.
