Re: Venting Thread
This is the problem I am having. I don't know if I really want to teach abroad or if I just think I want to because I am depressed from job hunting in the US. I vaguely like the idea of visiting another country, but I hate the idea of being away from my family.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 02:47 am (UTC)(link)On that note, why do you want to go overseas? What problem do you see it solving in your life?
Re: Venting Thread
I want to visit other countries but I've always viewed visiting other countries in context of visiting them with my sister. If there is such a thing as platonic soulmates, my sister is mine. :P
I also worry that I am watching to teach abroad to hold off on having to worry about job/car/apartment hunting. It has got me fairly depressed and stressed.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 03:30 am (UTC)(link)Sometimes your goals might not be career related but might need money. So you might need to think about jobs - does your job pay enough? if it does, could you continue to work in it just for the money, or is it just that shit? In those situations, what you might need to concentrate on is a career change.
If you suspect it isn't that bad, it just where you are atm, then you need to think about a job change. When you think about where you will look for another job, keep in mind your long term goals - even if you picture yourself living near your family for most of your life, do you actually need to be live near them for the next year or so? If yes, why? Are they really compelling reasons? (Compelling for me = partner who can't travel with me, responsibilities I couldn't leave, health reasons why I can't leave, opportunities where I am that I know are coming up and that I have a chance for that I don't want to miss).
If you need a job change in order to work out whether teaching is for you, want to save money, and don't need to live near your sisters RIGHT NOW, then definitely start looking for jobs in different areas or abroad.
Go through the above process not thinking about your anxieties and make the RIGHT CHOICE. Then, and only then, start doing your research so incredibly thoroughly that there's hardly any room for your anxiety to live. And most of all, once you make your decision, COMMIT, and only change it if that change corresponds with a future life goal in a meaningful way.
Re: Venting Thread
Thank you for this advice, you have no idea what it means to me. It is just really nice to be able to talk to anyone about what is going on in my life.
