This is oddly specific, but after thinking about it... yeah, that would annoy me, too.

This is oddly specific. How is this happening so often to you that it warrants a secret? Like I'm picturing you throwing your hat on the ground and cursing the skies over yet another fic where they call the animal the person's name. "WHYYYYYYYY!? THEY WOULDN'T KNOW!! IT'S SUCH A RIDICULOUS COINCIDENCE!!! IT MAKES NO LOGICAL SENSE EVEN THOUGH THE FIC IS ABOUT TRANSFORMING INTO ANIMALS!!! WHY GOD WHY?!"

Nah, I get it. They want to see animal transformation fic, but as if it's in the real world. Like, just because I'm reading Harry Potter doesn't mean I want leaps in logic or bad writing.

That was immediately what I thought of when I saw this secret.

I can think of a few reasons to write it that way.

To signal that the animal reminds whoever named it of the person the animal actually is and thereby start setting up the eventual reveal.

To easily keep the animal connected in the minds of the audience to the person they actual are (this is not as important if it's from the transformed POV).

To have less of a possibility of confusion.
