Yeah, it's that and the women that aren't getting brutalised (or being eye candy) don't have much to do. Men get brutalised too but that's balanced with a lot of other male characters. This was not so imbalanced in the original series, and I'm sad it's gone backwards. I mean, all poor Agent Preston gets to do is wear very high heels, carry messages, serve tea and get creeped on by Gordon. She's a goddamn FBI agent, what is this shit?

Twin Peaks has always had really mixed messages when it comes to women. Partly it's exposing domestic violence, incest and other abuse that goes on behind closed doors, but at the same time it had a character like Audrey who was sexualised while supposedly being a schoolgirl. I do realise that the actress playing Tammy does kind of look and dress like that irl, and I also realise that the character "wrote" the TSHOTP dossier, so she does more stuff off screen, but it's still creepy.
