What's a movie you thought you'd hate, but ended up loving?

Zoolander is all I can think of right now, I don't know if I thought I would hate it exactly but it didn't really get me during the first viewing.

But it's one of those weird movies that gets better the more you watch it and before you know it you are laughing at all the dumb jokes and quoting it with your friends.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I hated the first Captain America movie. I still hate the first Captain America movie. But TWS changed my fandom life. :P

The first Pokemon movie. I had to watch it with the kids I was babysitting. I thought it'd be torture, instead it got me into anime. That was 16 years ago and I'm a weeb to this day.

Haha that's hilarious, especially since critics trashed it back in the day.

Jeux d'enfants. The trailer for the movie was on quite a few dvds that my friends and I had watched, so we saw it over and over again. It made the movie look very bad. I ended up catching that last half of the movie while it was on tv and quickly fell in love.

It's not a movie, but it kind of counts: I thought I'd hate Final Fantasy XV, because a.) I don't tend to like JRPGs, b.) the ads all looked stupid (though on reflection that was still when it was Versus XIII, and I know they changed like... everything), and c.) my more weeaboo friends had sort of soured me on Final Fantasy as a series in general (mostly over VII, X, and XIII) so I was already pretty much de-hyped.

I ended up getting it as a joke gift, and I let it collect dust for a while before I got bored enough to try it out, figuring it'd at least be worth making fun of.

Oops. I fucking loved it. I fucking loved every single one of those characters, and I really enjoyed being able to drive/run/Chocobo around doing hunts and stuff. It was so fucking charming. I'll admit the pacing needed work, but even the story/character arcs got me. I've downloaded all the DLC and am still pretty much dead from Episode Prompto, and I... can't bring myself to spaz at anyone about it, because I feel like I've been such a shitheel about everyone else being so hype about the earlier installments. Karmaaaaaa. /shakefist

I was surprised by how much I loved the Power Rangers movie. I went with the intent of hate-watching it, but I ended up really liking it and I'm a little disappointed that it didn't do better, so we probably won't be getting a sequel.

I wouldn't say I loved it but I took my kid to see High School Musical 3 thinking I would spend the whole time begging for it to end and I actually enjoyed watching it. No work of art of course but it was fun.

Not a movie but my friend strongly warned me against watching Elfen Lied and seemed to be afraid I was going to come back and yell at him about how horrible it was and I liked it.

Tomorrowland. I normally do not do Disney or other kids' movies but I went just for Hugh Laurie. I wound up liking it a lot.

The first of the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movies. It seemed so showy and gimmicky and soulless to me going by all the promotional material. But then the plot/script/characters were actually pretty solid and fun and I ended up kind of loving it. (I hated A Game of Shadows though - to me it did feel gimmicky and OTT and soulless.)

Frozen. All the commercials were very misleading and it's always been trendy to hate it so I went in very skeptical. It's one of my favorite Disney movies now.

Edge of Tomorrow.

Not a Cruise fan, but the way his character gets slapped down in the first part of the movie made me grin. And Emily was fab. (also enjoyed Christophe Beck's score.)
