There is a very old church (~around 1100) so that's pretty cool.
It's also right in the middle of a large forest so that's nice as well because I love the forest.

I hated where I grew up. Nothing cool about it.

The zoo is pretty damn awesome. And our regional theatres are cool.

The Smithsonian. Especially my childhood favorites, the Natural History and Air and Space museums.

Lots of nice parks, low crime, good schools, near the river so there are deer and stuff to look at, its quiet but there's stuff to do, nice libraries

I love it because I grew up here, but objectively speaking it doesn't have a lot going for it.

I know this probably sounds lame but by hometown do you mean where I live now and have been living for decades or where I lived when I was a kid? the two towns in question could not have less in common (apart from both being in the US)

OK, I have been living in Oakland, Cal. for 25 years and I love it. It has lots of character and is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the US. Not just California. let me stress that. it has amazing culture and food and entertainment and parts of it are really beautiful. We have all the charm of San Francisco and MUCH lower rents.

It's nice and quiet, crime's not too bad and it tends to be of the breaking/entering, theft and drug possession variety rather than the murder variety. I'm surrounded by nature. There's not a ton of traffic.
