This. It's one thing to use it face-to-face if your black friends have given the okay, but I don't think using it in a public forum where other people who may not be okay with it can see it is appropriate.

But is everyone on Twitter doesn't know the details of this person's life, so it's shitty for them to dig up personal exchanges to fuel their vendetta that was started for entirely unrelated reasons.
