131 - Yes, they might be that good, but most of the time they're not. That's not the point. Deciding not to read something just because it's popular? Honestly, how arrogant can you get? You're no better than the people who drop their so-called favourite bands as soon as they become mainstream.

Okay, er, I agree with previous comments, both The Da Vinci Code and Twilight are shit. But I'll bloody well read what I want to read, no matter how effing popular it is.

Not the OP but I'm in the same boat as him/her. For me though it's more the fact that it's being figuratively shoved down my throat rather than it being popular. It's one reason why I refuse to watch As Good As It Gets because my entire family and all my friends wanted me to watch it and kept trying to hassle me into watch it. No thank you, I can make up my own mind and due to the rampant barrage of "Watch it now! You HAVE to watch it!" reminds me that I don't HAVE to do a damn thing someone else wants me to do.

In all honesty though it's not being arrogant, it's choosing to not read something based on its popularity. Simple really.
