Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really understand most of the character hate that I've seen. I liked how Rose was so very human, young and resourceful enough without being super brilliant and not infallible.

Hahaha shipwars make me laugh. No one's going to convince anyone, so there's really not any point arguing. I can handle reasoned debates, but reasoned debates when it comes to fandom usually degenerate into obscure personal attacks.

Yeah, I don't know, I do hang out in a sane, wankless corner of the HP fandom (it does exist!) but I do know there are lots of crazies out there, so who knows, lol. In genera I try to steer away from wank -- I say "in general" beause I find Twilight wank hilarious -- but when it comes to Doctor Who I don't have any idea where to even start.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you like Doctor/Rose, [livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips is a really good starting point. Everyone there is really nice so far, and there are a ton of good links in the user info.

And yes, Twilight wank is probably the most hilarious thing ever -- but I only say that because I'm not seriously attached to any of the characters. ;)

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm I'll have to take a look, thanks. =)

Yeah that's why I'm all for it, too, hahaha. I don't really care about... anyone involved in Twilight... so poking fun at it and watching the fandom explode over OMG EDWARD VS JACOB!!! and the Robert Pattinson casting announcement is good times for me.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, hell, I think Robert Pattinson is about the BEST thing about Twilight. He's pretty! ;) But yeah, other than that ... psssh, I don't care.

I did actually get attached to characters in Doctor Who, though, which is why I guess I defend what I like a little bit more. Sue me, I like Rose, and I think she and the Doctor are adorable TOGETHER. OMG I must be killed. :p

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Haha RPattz is definitely the reason I'm in the Twilight fandom at all; I saw the epic casting announcement at [livejournal.com profile] ontd and it was so hilarious I ended up getting dragged in. Had they cast someone less hilarious (ie not Cedric Diggory) I probably would've forgotten the books existed.

Same, I'm attached to them just as I'm attached to most of the characters in HP, so I avoid wank in those areas because they hurt my soul a little more, haha.

AND OBVIOUSLY. Because obviously we are everything wrong with the New Who and the generation and so on and so forth etc.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Amen to the soul-hurting! I mean, I know they're fictional characters, but does it REALLY do anybody any good to put them down all the damn time? I mean ... what exactly are people accomplishing by calling Rose (or Martha, or Donna, or whoever) all these horrible names that they seem to pull out of nowhere? NONE OF THE GIRLS ARE PERFECT. THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF IT ALL. The Doctor doesn't hate any of them, so why the hell should WE? Geez, people.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Haha wow it definitely took me way too long to realize there was a giant 9 in your icon.

Yeah, I don't know. I can understand disliking a fictional character and I can even understand mocking that character when given the opportunity, because I have a surprising amount of disdain for Bella Swan, but... yeah, I don't get it. And I get protective of the characters I like, lol.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
LOL My icon foils another! Success! Or something. I don't even know any more.

Yeah, everyone seems to have disdain for Bella. I'm just kinda "meh" on the whole issue. If I cared more about the characters, I'd probably form an opinion, but as such ... I just can't be fussed to worry about it too much. LOL Lazy fangirling!

I get protective of well-liked characters, too, though. But I try not to argue too much with people who don't agree. Friendly debates are all well and good, but name-slinging and nastiness are not my idea of a good time.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Haha I was just kinda like "oh it's a little darker in some spots.... WHOA THAT'S A NINE! HAA I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE!"

Bella... embodies many character traits I dislike, so when they're all smack-dab in one place it definitely unleashes some disdain. Plus, I don't know, it just makes the Twilight lulz experience more fun, or something. I don't really care about any of the characters in Twilight too much.

And yeah. With stories/characters/whatever that i actually care about (ie Harry Potter, Doctor Who) I avoid the arguments. With something I don't really care about so much -- like Twilight -- I'm all for sitting back and watching the wank happen.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
OMG Is that a Jim/Pam icon? You are seriously my new favorite person! Okay, that's it, friending you. :D

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
It certainly is! Hahaha awesome, I'll add you back.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! New friends are win. Especially when they like awesome things like Doctor Who and The Office. And Twilight wank! :D

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Haha YESS, THREE OF MY BIGGEST LOVES.

Also, our shippy layouts win. Hahahaha.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, mine too. I spend waaaaay too much time flailing about The Office. Very sad that we have to wait till September for anything new! :p

And, yes, our layouts rock! Yours is really pretty, I really love the kind of lacy-looking background you have (and the header is pretty pretty too). I just found mine tonight, so I'm still basking in the glow of it's newness. (And I obviously have a total soft spot for Nine/Rose. Can't help it, LOVE them. Love him, even though Ten is also made of awesome.)

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
The Office was the first television show I got into, trufax. I didn't watch TV for like... ten years or something, then I got interested in The Office so I started watching season 4 (while re-watching all previous seasons online), and then The Office got me into Scrubs because Scrubs comes on after The Office, and then "giving in" to TV for The Office made way for trying out Doctor Who. Which, admittedly, I never would have done if a friend hadn't linked me to Blink, lol.

Hahah I'm a little bit in love with my layout too, even though I'm not personally responsible for any of it. (I am graphically inept, and my knowledge of CSS is shaky at best.) And I love Nine! He doesn't really get enough love, I guess because he was only around for so short. I have a stupid amount of love for Ten/David Tennant, so I can't complain too much, but I did really like Nine's sarcasm, deadpanning and seriousness. He was especially awesome in Father's Day (or maybe I'm just saying that because Father's Day is the episode I most recently rewatched... but still.) I wish I had room for some Nine icons .... and some Dwangela icons, and some Donna icons, and some Martha icons. Haha.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, The Office is pretty much the ONLY show I HAVE to watch religiously (well, now along with Doctor Who, but I'm REALLY new to the Who fandom). But I got completely hooked on The Office, and am totally happy about it. FUNNIEST SHOW EVER. :D

Yeah, I didn't make my layout either. Totally ganked it from someone who actually knows what they're doing, because I sure don't. lol It IS very sad that Nine doesn't get more love. I mean, I adore David Tennant. Love him to DEATH (or you know, a normal, healthy amount), but there was just something about Chris Eccleston and Nine that really drew me in. And I love his interactions with Rose. My biggest fangirly moment to date came at the end of the first series, with The Kiss. Man, I freaked the hell out (in a good way). :D

I need about another hundred icons in order to cover everything that I want an icon for. But don't see that happening any time soon, sadly. lol

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty much never able to watch the shows I like on television (because on Thursdays my tv was always occupied, and Doctor Who doesn't air here) so I am used to the internet, but I'm rabid about trying ot watch the episodes ASAP. And I'm pretty new, too, actually; I only started watching... hm, a month ago? Maybe a month and a half.

Yeah I just added the banner to my layout, and changed the text. Haha.

Haha, The Kiss. I don't really know what my most fangirly moment was, spoilers have deprived me of most of them. When I started watching season one, the site I was using had a big "Rose Tyler returns!" thing at the top, so even though I knew beforehand that she left at the end of s2, I also knew beforehand that she was coming back, so ... yeah, no real surprises there. I do remember thinking "say it, say it, say it!" throughout the entire beach scene in Doomsday, getting all excited when Rose choked it out and then getting all disappointed when Ten didn't get a chance. And I flailed when Rose appeared on the Tardis screen in the Sontaran episode, because it was her first reappearance that I hadn't already been spoiled for.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
I actually JUST started watching Doctor Who about a week or so ago. I still haven't made it all the way through season 3.

Oh, I was spoiled as all hell for pretty much everything concerning season 2 onward, and I still bawled and bawled at the end of Doomsday. I don't think I've ever been that upset about ANYTHING EVER. I felt like a total dumbass too, because I was like, tearing up a box of Kleenex as I watched the stupid thing. And then I cried for a good hour after it was all over.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oops, I'll stfu then, lol. But wow, even newer than me, that's a first. Heeeee.

I think I may be possibly the only Doctor/Rose shipper in the world who didn't cry during Doomsday... I don't even know why. I think in general I just don't cry at television shows very often -- I'd say never but there was an episode of Scrubs that got me to tear up once. ...Go figure.

Ohhh, it's so sad though. Billie Piper can cry like nobody's business, lol. And of course I pretty much just wanted to give the Doctor a giant bearhug the whole time.

(Also, dunno if you're into fanmixes or what kind of music you listen to, but I am totally in love with this mix (http://community.livejournal.com/lilyrose_icons/24243.html?page=3#comments) and haven't really had anyone to flail over it with. I particularly recommend Ghosts and Boats & Birds.)

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, don't worry about it. Like I said, I've been totally spoiled, so nothing is ruined for me. Besides, I usually go hunting for the spoilers anyway. I hate being surprised. LOL

I know, though, when Billie Piper cries, I pretty much just want to start crying. And I felt SO BAD for the Doctor. He's just finally opening up and letting someone back in, and then she's taken from him! *sniffle* SO SAD.

And I listen to ALL kinds of music and am always looking for new stuff. That mix looks AWESOME and I will definitely be downloading some, if not ALL of it soon! :D

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, mmkay. I'm ... kind of the opposite? It depends for me -- for whatever reason with this show I'm curious enough to sort-of look up spoilers without wanting to be too spoiled, and with Twilight I'll take every spoiler I can get because I don't care, but I adamently avoided all kinds of spoilers while reading Harry Potter.

I know, it's terrible! She's so good! Hahaha. AND IT IS. TRAGIC. I think what killed me even more than the alone-crying-in-the-TARDIS thing was the scene in Runaway Bride at Donna's reception. I kinda forgot while watching Runaway Bride that it's immediately post-Doomsday, as in, like, minutes, but in retrospect it just makes me be like D: AW POOR BABY even more, haha.

Haha awesome. I'm listening to it right now! Boats & Birds is so ridiculously Doctor/Rose I can't even get over it. And Ghosts, except Ghosts seems more Nine-y to me than Ten-y.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] night-is-fallen.livejournal.com 2008-06-07 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's so crazy to me that for all intents and purposes Nine and Ten are the SAME MAN, but yet, they're so completely different that it's like two separate characters. I don't know why, it just kinda trips me out. It's like, I'll be listening to music and I'll be like, "This song is SO Doctor/Rose ... but more Ten than Nine" or vice-versa. It is just a head trip.

Or maybe I just think about this stuff too much. LOL It's all very possible.

Also? I love how we've completely hijacked this thread here. Awesome, I love it when that happens! :D

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
I know. In some scenarios I write them off as being the same person, but then in others there are stark reminders that they're ...not, really. I don't know, it's weird. I can imagine how much it fucked ith Rose's head at first. I end up just likening it to James Bond -- different actors, different impressions (and different women) but essentially the same man, haha.

But yeah, no, I know what you mean. ...Well, obvs, 'cause I just said the same thing about Ghosts.

I KNOW, WE WIN. However, it's getting kinda late for me and I have to work tomorrow, so Iiii am off to bed. G'night! I'll talk to you later.

Re: doomsday icons ftw

Oh, I know, it really hits you in the gut. The look on his face... D:

Re: doomsday icons ftw

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-06-07 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW. And when Donna finds her shirt, and when Donna asks what her name was ... D: Kills me dead.
