There is literally no possible choice that would satisfy all of the fans.

They pushed the boundaries on one front (casting a woman) but balanced that out with being "safe" on other fronts (she's white, conventionally attractive, and generally well-regarded, rather than being a complete unknown.)

While it's not the be-all and end-all of diverse casting, it seems like a reasonable middle course for the BBC to take.

I think the next Doctor will be an MOC and they're trying to ease us into it. It'll be at least half a decade before we see another white man in the role.
