TBH The cheapness is part of the appeal for me and most of them do cost the same as a Barbie (which I know 'cause I went to Target to buy my niece a birthday present and saw a Funko I wanted, so into the cart it went). I'm an anime fan too and there's some awesome merch out there for my favorite shows, but a lot of it is expensive as hell. I think the Nendoroids are super cute, but they're expensive and they don't make one of every character I like.

I have a whole bunch of gashapons from Japan. Those are hella cheap, a few dollars each, but a lot of them are super cute.
I got why a non-costly type of merch would attract people, but...ugh, funkos.
