If they get the characterization right on the rest of the characters - pointing out woobifying or wrong language useage or whatever, then the issue is unacknowledged bias. If they are good at SPaG, but poor on characterization, then you need to keep that in mind when weighing their value.

Also, you need to consider your bias. Was the situation one where Gwen would default to catty? Because often she did. She was also often thoughtless and cruel in the treatment of those closest to her, although weirdly, she would go miles for strangers. (Also without considering the consequences of her actions.
