Dumb rustic aesthetic

(Anonymous) 2017-08-03 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone posted a recipe video on Facebook, which involved an egg being scrambled. Instead of a whisk, the guy used three sticks. How does that work better than a whisk? But it fit the video's aesthetic, I guess.

Another dumb example was an article about packing stuff for a picnic. It showed the stuff packed into a basket, including a "package" of graham cracker squares... except that they had been taken out of the cellophane packet and tied together with string. Why. They'll just bang up against the other stuff in the basket and crumble.

I'm sure it's just people being brought up on The "I Used A Mason Jar!" Pioneer Woman.

The Pioneer Woman is riding this wave, not creating it.

I loathe the 'sloppy' aesthetic. Like this shit
http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2016/greatideas/blog/160314/milkshake-600x800.jpg

It just looks sticky and gross

I like the rustic thing when it's practical, but stuff like that is just so useless and overly precious. I mean, that milkshake might as well be one of those fake foods that they use to shoot commercials with.

I see it most often for sweet things, but I swear one time I saw spaghetti sauce used for a splattered and dripping all over the sides of the pots and pans and bowls and etc. shoot and it makes me cringe.

Lol yeah that's a bit much

That looks like what happens when I realize I've fucked up assembling/decorating food I've worked hours on.

TBH even if it weren't slopping all over the place I wouldn't care for it because it's too much. Diabeetus in a mason jar.

At least there's a plate under it but, yeah - that's just cringy. I hate when something inherently sticky and messy is *deliberately* made messier.

I FOUND A SAVORY ONE.

I love the tumblr, they do exactly what they say, post recipes constantly. But they just use whatever pic comes along with them.

I hate cooking bloggers with animals up on their benches and in their cookery more. Why, oh why? How does e-coli, parasitic worms, toxoplasmosis and chlamydiosis enhance their food?

I know a Youtuber who always has cats in his videos, I admire how they are very well-behaved cats - at least two of them are, their third cat is a food-obsessed rescue cat they literally picked up off a highway with broken bones and had to get a pile of vet treatment. He likes trying to get into the rubbish bin.

LOL, I know. Food bloggers do this all the time. Like they'll post a recipe for chocolate chip cookies and one of the final shots will be a stack of cookies tied with ribbon or twine or something dumb like that. It cracks me up. But the fact that the guy you're talking about actually bothered to repackage frigging graham crackers is hilarious.

What's wrong with a damn fork? Best way to mix up eggs. And omg - graham crackers are a mess to begin with, that's just stupid.

Most thorough is an electric mixer, second a drink shaker, but for simple but effect, yes forks.
