Jobs/Job SearchThread

Have you ever quit your job without having another one lined up? I'm seriously considering quitting my job. It's starting to severely affect my mental health. I do try to search for a new job, but I mentally exhausted by the end of my work day.

Yep. Currently unemployed after leaving my horrible job. If you have done money saved up to last you 3-4 months, consider it.

I have a few thousand saved up at the moment. If I wait a month, I could have another 2k. That would be enough for me for a while.

Seconding the "If you have money saved, go for it." Have you been looking elsewhere already?

I have been looking, but not as diligent as I should be because I've been emotionally and physically drained. I've had only 3-4 interviews this year (including one I had this week).

No, but I was laid off a few years ago and despite having over a month's warning, I did not have a new job lined up. It was hard to find the motivation to get serious about searching when I still had a job to go to and a paycheck coming in. It was also hard to mae the time and muster the energy. I was unemployed for nearly 2 months, but it worked out.

I am in the same spot. My Sundays are basically dedicated to job search/applications. And even doing it then is a stretch of my mental energy. But I just can't quit without something lined up. I don't have that kind of money. I've come close a few days in the past couple of weeks though...

Doing it on Sundays sounds like a good idea. I would be refreshed enough to actually do it.

Exactly. I need the whole Saturday to re-group and get my energy back. I used to try and make myself do a little bit each night, but that just made me feel awful and was unproductive. Definitely rec taking Saturday to do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel better (even if that something is nothing), then attempting on Sunday.

Save money like crazy to give yourself a financial buffer if you can, and try to take one afternoon a week to work on polishing up your resume and job hunting. I'm betting that the process of freeing yourself will help your stress a little, because at least you know you're working on getting out.

Once, since the environment was so toxic, but to be fair, I was living with family at the time. Not sure I'd pull that now, though I guess not having an income or a house would be the thing to light a fire under my ass?

I think I wrote this exact same thread months ago. I still have my shitty job. I'm alone in this city, have expensive rent, and I just can't afford to quit. Literally, I live paycheck to paycheck on a dismal salary job. it really has ripped my mental health to shreds but I just don't have that buffer to quit. I have been throwing applications like mad, left and right, for like... eight months, and still haven't lined up anything new yet. Finding a professional job that's a step above entry level absolutely sucks, especially in this city which is known for being all about networking and knowing someone in the company to get the job.

Yes, but there were extenuating circumstances, aka I was relocating to be with my boyfriend, and he was making enough to support us while I looked for a job. Which was a good thing, because it took me six months to get hired.
