Supernatural mystery shows?

I'm thinking mostly anime with this, but does anyone know of good supernatural mystery shows? I don't mean like shonen 'parade of magical battles' type things, but more 'people trying to figure out what creepy thing is happening, why the creepy thing is happening, and what to do about it' sort of things. I liked Mushishi and Ghost Hunt, if that gives anyone any idea of what I'm looking for.

Since you say mostly anime, I hope you don't mind a live action American/Canadian rec, but I'd rec Haven based on your criteria. If you're in the U.S., afaik, it's still available on Netflix Instant.

I don't mind at all. I think I actually saw a couple of episodes of Haven, way back in seasons 1 or 2, but for whatever reason I didn't keep it up at the time. I might go back and have another look. Thank you!

I haven't! I heard of Gosick recently, because I watched Dantalian no Shoka, but I've never seen either, and never heard of Hamatora at all. Thanks for the recs!

I guess Death Note technically qualifies, but the audience already knows what the Death Note is and more or less the supernatural limitations involved, but another character is investigating.

Oh, oh!

The Ayakashi Bakeneko arc of the Samurai Ghost Stories OVA, and then the Mononoke spin off series.

The Medicine Seller does exactly what you're looking for.

Also, it's possible you';d like Vampire Princess Miyu.
