Shows similar to Buffy?

[personal profile] philstar22 2017-08-04 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
By that I mean shows with supernatural elements that also have good characterization, humor, and lines. I need something new to watch, and I'm not sure what I want.

The first two seasons of Lost Girl were sort of fun.

There are a lot of articles comparing Wynonna Earp to Buffy. It's a different setting, but lots of paranormal mysteries (especially in the second season, the first is mostly revenants), an awesome female lead, and some great humor and quips.

'Stranger Things' was really pretty cool.

I agree that ST is excellent, but other than the supernatural element angle, it has very little of the Buffy vibe.

I dunno. 'Normal' kids fighting off weird monsters, one 'superpower' kind of kid leading them..... A little vibey.

The first few seasons of Teen Wolf, though I can almost guarantee you will be pissed off at Scott at some point.

Fringe - weird with an extra helping of weird

Miracles - only had one season and more on the somber side

I didn't recommend it in the above thread, but I think it would work here as well, Haven. It's a very characterization heavy show with some great humor, and the whole premise of the show is supernatural (although not vampiric).

For late 90s/early 00s vibes: Dark Angel, Roswell, Charmed, Angel (obviously)

Go in with low expectations and maybe be surprised: Hex, Lost Girl, Demons (british tv show with only 6 eps)

If you don't mind a particular kind of humour: Misfits, Crazyhead

Fun: iZombie

I also enjoyed AHS: Coven - you don't need to be familiar with the other seasons to watch it since they're all different plots, but this one has witches.

Dark Angel!!! do be warned, the acting isn't 100%, but it's definitely enjoyable and cool. last time I checked on an ok on community (granted it was probably 4 or 5 years ago) it was still active, and the show hasn't been around for at least 10 years?

Hex had Michael Fassbender and Garbage playing the theme of the show.

The X-Files if you've never seen that - I hadn't seen a single episode before the start of this year.

The Middleman - https://youtu.be/ErwMV4kXXfc
