Re: Teaching in Japan

Did it in Japan for a few years!! Absolutely loved it. Did it straight out of college, made way more money than I ever would've made in the US, and got to be abroad out of the deal, too. I loved Japan, though it had its ups and downs, I think it's just important to not get too isolated, keep an open mind, and stay busy. English teaching itself can be a fun way to learn about Japanese people and culture, since all you'll do is talk to Japanese people all day. The lessons themselves get super repetitive and aren't really fun, but I was interested in linguistics and studied Japanese so I found it fun to "problem-solve" how to teach grammar and compare English and Japanese.

I warn against teaching in a small town/rural area though. It's super fun.. for the first month, until you realize you're the only young person there because all the local young people move to the cities and stay. lol
