They certainly did do it from the "moral police" angle and while I hate the policing now, I sure don't miss the rampant and acceptable homophobia of fandom in the 90s and early 2000s.

In my experience, the homophobia is still around; people are just sneakier about it.

Yeah, when public opinion changes, that tends to happens. Like it's good that homophobic comments aren't as tolerated, but because of that it's more difficult to get open and honest discussions going about it because people are afraid of a backlash.

This is kinda of part of why I like anonymous spaces because even if you mess up nobody can hold it against you and people tend to be more honest about what they believe.
