Who would play Elric, though? I can't think of anyone....

Jamie Campbell Bower. Damn, now I want to see this.

Holy. Crap. You're so right.
DAMN.

That's what I'd been thinking of. I knew he'd done fantasy and had some sword training, and in his interviews for Will he's been talking about how much he enjoys exploring the darkness within characters (and his Christopher Marlowe in Will is a force of nature). He's also taller and ganglier now, so he's even better suited to play Elric.

Ugh, now I've gotten myself all psyched for something that's never going to happen.

You and me both. I have to watch this 'Will' now.

I really like his acting on that show, even though I'm not really fond of the "depraved homosexual" trope they got going for him. Mostly because I think that trope is very much overused in a lot of "historic" TV shows featuring gay characters.

It is overused, i completely agree. But...i'll take what i can get. And the trailer showed actual women on stage; looks like everyone is 'depraved' in that universe!

(It actually looks very pretty. Hope it's as fun and weird as the trailer makes it seem.)

Yeah, same really. And his role is otherwise one of the most interesting ones on the show otherwise, so I can't be too annoyed about it.
It's generally pretty anachronistic and takes huge liberties with history, but honestly, historical accounts from that time/when it comes to Shakespeare and his contemporaries tend to be vague at best so I don't really mind.

It's fun, but also kind of grim in parts. It has some pretty explicit torture and general violence, so that's... unpleasant, if realistic. I'd say it's a bit of "Shakespeare in Love" meets "The Tudors".

I saw someone describe Will as Shakespeare meets Velvet Goldmine. Add in some late '70s/early '80s British punk rock, and that's about it.

I could do without the explicit torture and tedious love triangle, but JCB is amazing. I kind of agree about the depraved homosexual trope, but I love watching him play it.

Yeah, that's a pretty great comparison, actually!

And yes, agreed. He does the role so well I can ignore my dislike for the trope pretty well.

Well, I'm going to have to give it a look-see. I'm not happy with torture, i'll probably ff, but ...it just looks interesting as hell.

Thanks for all the info!
