Maybe you just didn't have strong memories connected to a lot of the minutiae.

I was a young child/adolescent in the 80s and in high school and college in the 90s, so I've got a lot of memories attached to both. I saw a broad range of stuff from both eras because I have four siblings and if one of us wasn't into something, almost guaranteed a friend of one of ours was. Plus, we moved several times before I was ten and the community we eventually settled in, for all that it was a small town, had a high turnover of people in it. Almost everything someone mentions, I can find a connection to. It's more the emotional echo than anything else that brings the nostalgia. I had a pretty happy childhood too, but I enjoy thinking about the things connected to it.
