I'm genuinely curious why you'd watch something you thought was misogynistic, "rapey," etc.

And no, I'm not a huge Twin Peaks fan, I just think it's bizarre that people would scrutinize David Lynch's work using 21st century sociopolitical standards because it's inevitably going to come up short by design.

It's hard to answer because I'm not OP. But presumably, they watch it because they enjoy it, while also thinking that some aspects of it are bad to them. I don't see what's incorrect about reacting to something like that - liking parts of it and disliking others.

I wouldn't talk about it in terms of "scrutiny" and "coming up short". I think using that lens can help understand different aspects of the work. I don't think people who are using that lens are necessarily going to use it to dismiss the show entirely. OP certainly doesn't seem to have done so.

How would OP know that scene was "rapey" before they'd seen it? They're not psychic, presumably. Or perhaps that like many viewers, they don't feel the need to ragequit a whole series the very first time they encounter something they're not comfortable with? I also don't think it's weird that people would watch Twin Peaks using a modern context because this isn't the Twin Peaks of 1990. Lynch is making it for a 2017 (and beyond) audience.
