(Anonymous) 2017-08-15 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)Personally the Dan Harmon element is the #1 thing that turns me off of the show, especially after the first season. I just can't stand dealing with his goddamn storytelling formulas and emotional beats and all that shit all over again, and the impenetrable continuity, and the aggressively nerd-ass style of storytelling

(Anonymous) 2017-08-16 12:37 am (UTC)(link)before the show started, Harmon was a friend of Roiland's who already had experience in turning his ideas into the episodic format a show would need (because duh, he'd worked in tv before and not just on shorts), and that's how he got involved in Rick and Morty, at Roiland's request. But everything that really makes the show what it is, and Dan Harmon has fully admitted this, is ALL Justin Roiland. Harmon is great with 3-act structure and storytelling beats and figuring out just when to throw a sudden emotional suckerpunch into what you thought was just going to be a light and funny episode, but Harmon has SAID THIS many times, the best episodes and best moments and overall best stories are when he just sits back and trusts Justin completely because the show is really his baby.
