He made a generic statement while events were in play condeming all violence, then a more specific statement after an investigation instigated. He sent the justice dept down there within hours of the event to begin a civil rights inquiry. Seems like the right move to me.

He went out of his way to avoid condemning white nationalism, white supremacy, and neo-Nazism. He went OUT OF HIS WAY to avoid it. White supremacists generally understood his statements as not condemning them. Nothing about that is the right move. Nothing about blaming the violence on both sides is the right move. It is awful and wrong.
