It just feels to me that they are trying to ride the "80's nostalgia vibe" wave that worked for Guardians of the Galaxy and I'm not thrilled about that because I don't like those movies. It also seems a bit forced to me.

It seems to me like they're mining the more 70s/80s long hair metal vibe of some of the crackier Thor comic runs. GOTG nostalgia is a completely different vibe from like, Led Zeppelin. Buuut you could be right. Some people are theorizing that Thor is literally running into the GOTG universe here, so it could be a kind of marriage of aesthetics that may or may not work.

What's this?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-16 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thor 3: Ragnarok.

I'm curious.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-17 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
No sarcasm, actual question, how do you not get third Thor movie from reading the secret?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-16 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the opposite.

I was never interested in seeing the other Thor movies in theaters and found them entertaining but in a mediocre way when I saw them on cable. This one looks different and more wacky and I like that. It's not so much the 80s thing, but the slightly-intentionally-cheesy thing, which feels very appealing for a Thor movie to me. We'll see how it turns out.

Same!

(Anonymous) 2017-08-16 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, if you liked the trailers I wouldn't worry about the 80s vibe thing that much.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-16 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, same. The Thor movies were never my favorite, but I enjoyed them for what they were and an over-the-top 80s pastiche seems like a weird direction to take with them. I don't really understand why everyone seems so excited for this.

I'm excited about it, but frowning at the frequent "Finally they're doing something fun with the Thor movies!" attitude because I liked the previous ones : / And I'm wary of it trying too hard to be a comedy this time around.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-17 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Same. Most of my favorite Marvel movies are the unpopular ones. Thor, Doctor Strange, Captain America the First Avenger. So when they get dumped on in favor of other/later movies I get sad.

I'm kinda the same. The movie look fun as hell, but as someone who's a bigger fan of the actual myths than the comics, I'm a little bummed to lose the old feel.

That, and the rumors of Valkyrie being Loki's love interest (I'm hopelessly monogamous about Loki ships) have me a little shook. I'll probably still love the movie though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm mainly cautiously optimistic cause of Taika Waititi's directing

What We Do in the Shadows is a masterpiece.

Seriously, he is absolutely awesome. I hope he can do the same with a big budget.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-17 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm super psyched for it and it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. But I DEFINITELY agree with you that Thor 1 had that epic fantasy myth feel (big reason why I DIDN'T like the 2nd one, it was way too sci-fi feeling for me). I love sci-fi, just not in my Thor pls. :/
arcadiaego: Loki in the first Thor movie, in shadow, looking serious. (Loki)

[personal profile] arcadiaego 2017-08-18 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the same concerns, although I liked the director's last two films. I disliked the first GotG so much I never bothered with the 2nd one so I'm hoping that the similarities so far are misleading.
