You just summed up my frustration with the series perfectly. If Kishi is trying to prove a point, he could at least be consistant about it.

Didn't Gaara lose horribly to Akatsuki and needed to be saved by Naruto, though?

I do agree about the female characters though. *sigh*

Don't forget about Naruto being the son of the 4th, the greatest ninja in practically all of history, thereby completely justifying Neji's comment during his Chuunin exam fight with Naruto about how the office of Hokage is something only certain people are born to, not something just anyone can just achieve.

I think Kishimoto simply doesn't care anymore about coherence or consistency--it's been known for a while now that he really, really wants to get Naruto finished and out of the way so he can start work on this mafia manga he's had planned for a while, and it really, really shows. Good lord, how it shows.
