never understood how Fred orders his supposed friends around all the time and gets away with it, especially because Velma's obviously a lot smarter.

Just going to put this out there but that's part of the plot of the 2002 live-action movie, which is astonishingly watchable and fun

And it had Rowan Atkinson!

Write it anyway. Someone will enjoy it. I'm sure you can't be the only older Scooby Doo fan.

It's harmless fun, why not go for it?

Uh.

I never really thought about this, but they all have black irises. And why are Daphne's so much bigger? And what's up with the flesh-colored sclera for the humans? Their eyes are weird.

"nearly thirty and..."

Honey, I hate to break it to you but silly fandom fun doesn't end when you turn thirty. Go ahead and write if that's what you want to write.

You have permission from a thirty-something to do the thing. :)

*raises hand* I'm fifty-something, and they have my permission too.

Fandom isn't exclusively for the young, OP. Write what makes you happy and don't worry about how silly or not silly it is.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-22 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'm almost forty. And I've been writing a shitload of fanfiction lately. There's no shame, do what you want to do.

I hate to break it to you anon, but online fandom isn't now and never has been the sole domain of teens and twenty-somethings. In fact, early online fandom was mostly made up of adults, and pre-internet fandom even more so. They were the ones with the time, access, and experience to publish 'zines, run cons, create BBSes, and host archives. The fandom-as-youth-culture nonsense is pretty much a fiction created by kids so they can pretend they're doing something new instead of following in their grandma's Trekkie footsteps.

I mean, the people who write cartoon movie scripts must get started some way?

I'm in my thirties and Power Rangers is my main fandom.
