If Obi-Wan is roughly Ewan McGregor-aged in this movie, he needs to be played by Ewan McGregor. If they do like they did for Anakin - whole life - (but in 1 movie), Ewan still needs to be in it, but obviously he can't play a 12 year old or whatever, so that's the only reason I'd be ok with a recast.

But yes. I'm excited too. I have an intense love/hate relationship with Obi-Wan.

I doubt they'd do his whole life. So much of it was already seen in the prequels/OT (and afterlife!).

Also Disney seems to be Staying The Hell Away from anything that even breathes like the prequels (which makes me sad) so I doubt they'd go for younger!Obi-Wan. Especially since they've got a great actor who is the perfect age to play Obi-before-ANH and is on the record as being interested in playing the part if they were to ask him.

And there was some cool EU stuff that explored that time period. There's nothing that says he has to be spending the entire 20 years between RotS and ANH just sitting in the desert and meditating or whatever.

Besides, wouldn't it be fun to see the moment when he learns that Anakin survived and is now a walking monstrosity, "more machine now than man"?

there is truly no point to making this movie if Ewan isn't starring

Obi-wan is my favorite Star Wars character and in my top 5 of all time characters. I'm really excited for a movie. It's the only spin-off movie that interests me, and I definitely want Ewan McGregor to be in it.

However, I'm also really nervous about the prospect. I have enough Obi-wan material to keep me happy and I'm afraid they're going to do something really stupid (like a bullshit romance) and mess up things. I can ignore it but I'd rather it didn't happen.

I'm also on the fence about a young Obi-wan movie because I think the Jedi Apprentice books are bullshit and I'd love something to counter them. Obi-wan's relationship with Qui-gon is my favorite and I'd love to see more of them back in the day. But I think that would also have a high chance of being messed up.

I just really hope whatever way they go that they do a good job.
