Co-worker and I were supposed to be in a meeting at 2:30 but we managed to sneak outside and someone had nicked some of those welding plates for welding helmets and we used those to look at it. It was cool.

You're lucky you didn't hurt your eyes! Welding plates/welding helmets block out the light from the eclipse, but not the UV rays, so they aren't at all safe to watch the eclipse through!
