Is this a thing? Has someone said these things?

not claiming to be OP but I've made my way through a lot of small or privately run games myself and the level of professionalism you'd expect from people passively asking for your $$$ is... not really there, a lot of the time

it's worst with server-based games where everyone shares a chat, plenty of shitty asshole devs out there who take every complaint about the game personally

Chunks of the open-source community are notorious for being hostile to people who have not jumped through the right hoops, so hearing that some indie game publishers indulge in this doesn't surprise me.

It wouldn't surprise me. I know Subeta (a petsite) has a reputation for staff drama and assholishness.

I've never seen it with any actual real game studio, but it's not exactly a stretch.

Oh yes. Haven and Hearth indie game is what I immediately thought of reading this secret. Forum mods are so much worse even than what is quoted in the secret. And it doesn't help that the same people are "close" to game devs and usually get their assistance in game or devs introduce features they specifically ask for. I've been playing this game on and off for a long time and I really like it, but I've been driven off playing it a solid number of times because of it.

i feel this

sometimes i stay and play but these devs invariably end up the ones who ignore the playerbase because they know better then don't understand why everyone is leaving

One gm of a game I played used to call newbies retarded on a daily basis then didn't get why all the players left the game

Please share some examples, I want all the deets on this drama

Dev: Have you actually read the wiki?

Me: No, it's so badly organised I can't find [infor I need]. Could I have a link to the page I need?

Dev: (sends me a link to Google)

I had something similar happen to me... except Google couldn't find it either.
