Re: Do you think 'cumslut' is an offensive term?

Even if just a fictional character.

This is the part I just don't understand. How is calling a fictional character a cumslut offensive?

Especially because, as far as I can see, by your logic a fictional character a cumslut is always offensive, isn't it?

NAYRT

I understand why someone would dislike calling a fictional character something like that.

It's like calling a fake person a bitch or a racial slur - they may not be real but it uncovers some stuff about who is saying it.

I don't agree w/ that for cumslut but more serious stuff, yeh, I get it.

I can understand someone being annoyed at it, for sure, and I think there are definitely ways you could use it that would be offensive. But I'm not sure it's intrinsically offensive when applied to a fictional character. I agree that more serious words can be intrinsically offensive but I just don't see cumslut falling into that category.

Maybe I just have a more positive connotation for the word than for other people or something. IDK.

Because it is often indicative of the person writing it's state of mind. I don't mind if the person writes a fanfic where the character gets off on being called offensive things. It probably isn't my headcanon for the character, and I'm probably not going to read it, but it wouldn't bother me much. However, I really find that term offensive. It is very degrading and demeaning, and I don't want to see it applied to anyone outside of their own pornagraphic scenarios/fantasies. (Which for a fictional character would be a fanfic in which this is something they were into.)

Especially because, as far as I can see, by your logic a fictional character a cumslut is always offensive, isn't it?
Pretty much. For me at least. I wouldn't go on a crusade to ban the term or to get others to find it offensive if they don't, but for me it is. And I don't want to see it on my dash. I deal with enough sexist shit in RL that I would prefer not to have it around during my fun fandom times. Again, others are obviously free to disagree.

To me, when used against a woman (or, I suppose, a gay man), slut is a slur. It's one of the milder slurs, but it's still a slur. And adding 'cum' to it does not make it any better.

That said, context does make a difference. If it's being used as a kink word then I'll accept it as such (though personally I hate when the Dom calls the sub a slut or a cumslut in fic, even when it's during a BDSM session).
