Right? The mythology was intriguing at first but thanks to virtually NO planning of long term story arcs, it quickly became a barely comprehensible tangled mess of plotlines, conspiracies and sub-conspiracies. IMO they were usually the weakest parts of any season and the revival bears that out in a very painfully obvious way.

The only time myth arc episodes were good was when they didn't really know where they were going so they just focused on doing good paranoid spy stories and throwing cool-ass shit on screen.

Once they started caring about how it all fit together, the episodes stopped being cool-ass paranoia episodes BUT ALSO they never actually tied it together in a satisfying and planned-out way. Worst of both worlds.
