Re: Bad advice you've seen people give?

The following is all "advice" I have been given over the years:

--Turn the other cheek/forgive and forget.
--An abusive person can still have redeemable qualities.
--Well, you had a good time with [Abuser] that one time, so you can't think they're all bad.
--People have it worse than you.
--You can decide to be happy.
--You'd be less tired if you exercised.
--Suck it up.
--Your life would be better if you accepted Jesus into your life/heart/soul/whatever.
--You're not as bad as you were five years ago, so the problems that you're having now shouldn't be affecting you so much right now.

I thought you wrote, "You'd be less tired if you were exorcised" and two things went though my mind. 1. What kind of people were you talking with? 2. What kind of problems were you having that this was a response? But then I reread and you know. Still a bullshit thing to say to someone.

Pff, yeah. Almost wish someone would say that to me now.

Actually, I've found that there is a lot of truth to the "you'll be less tired if you exercise" thing. I know that I get a lot more sluggish/lethargic in the winter when I'm not outside walking around everywhere the way that I am when it's nicer out. I have way more energy when I'm walking a mile or more on a daily basis than I do when I'm just sitting around the house.

DA

There's a lot to be said for regular mild exercise, but some chronic health conditions can punish you sharply for pushing too hard.

And speaking from experience, it is very easy to push too hard.

It's a dreary little balancing act, and I personally don't enjoy outsiders unfamiliar with my issues blithely telling me the 'obvious fix'.

But if it's working for you, yay.

Then we obviously have 2 very different bodies.
