Re: Has anyone you've followed or have any of your online friends died?

cw for death.

Yup. And it's one of the reasons I hate our society's current fatphobia. She was having chest pain and difficulty breathing, went to the doctor, he took one glance and diagnosed her as 'that's normal for people in your weight range' and send her home telling her to diet and exercise. I still have the message she sent me about how she knew it wasn't normal but she just couldn't handle going back in and being dismissed and lectured about her weight.

Then nothing.

A week later her husband updated her facebook to let people know she'd passed out, that the ER discovered a large blood clot in her lung had broken off and caused a stroke and now there was no brain activity and they eventually made the decision to take her off life support. And yeah, I know it was real, I saw the obit and other information since I knew her real name. I still miss her and can't really bring myself to go back into our shared fandom.

Doctors who are dismissive of patients' symptoms make my blood boil.

Holy shit that's horrible I'm sorry! Doctors who blow off patients' concerns kill people. I hope her family can recover.

(Based on what I was told some time ago, I could have died as a baby as a result of a doctor blowing my mom off so this kind of things really pisses me off.)

Blood clots can fuck right off. I knew a (skinny) middle-aged guy who died of clots in his lungs. I'm not sure of the details, but I had the impression he had gone to the doctor about discomfort in his chest, been told it was probably a chest cold, and then a couple of weeks later he collapsed and died.

Fuck me, that's terrible. I'm really sorry. Shame on that doctor for dismissing her so quickly, and I hope it haunts him for the rest of his days.

Yes, someone from my flist from LJ. It wasn't dramatic or anything sensational like a pseudocide. She had had tumors for several years, and she sometimes (though not often) posted about it. Her last post was about them getting worse, and how she couldn't go home but had to stay at the hospital. Some other people in fandom knew her real name and later posted that she had died. :(
