Yup, but this was back in the early 00's. She was one of my fandom's earliest BNFs, and everybody called her "Grandma". Then out of the blue, she had a stroke, and her husband had to come and tell us she was gone...

It was my first fandom death, but sadly not the last since as another poster said, a lot of fandom friends I have made over the years have been much older than me since I was a college student in 1996 when the Internet was in its public infancy.
