It's an important fight to have because the more pearl-clutchers devalue the word 'pedophilia' to mean 'any sexual thing I don't like', the easier it is for real predators to slide under the radar.

This. It's gotten to where anytime I see "So-and-so is a PEDOPHILE!" I automatically assume that means they just ship Keith/Pidge instead of Keith/Lance or something equally stupid.

So it's a real fear that "No, so and so was actually convinced of inappropriate conduct with a minor." will get ignored in fandom. I mean, heck, they already ignore real survivors and harass them for saying to stop screaming that shit because it's triggery and gaslighty.
