Using "normal" people as a gauge is weird because having a safe haven from "normal" people has historically been the whole point of fandom.

Ah, okay, this clarifies things. See, I love and respect my "normal" friends. They're just like fandom people, expect none of them think getting off on hebephilic fantasies and the like is cool. I'll just stick with them, and the significant percentage of fandom who continues to uphold the level of relative sanity. *thumbs up*
