I have lots of friends and I've been unemployed for bloody ages. I met most of them through social groups or was introduced to them by other friends.

I've made friends through group therapy. That sounds bad but they're all nice people.

Yes, by going to trivia night at the pub with the secretary from work and her friends joining our team...so they were her friends but now I know them too.

Trivia really is a great way to meet new people. I haven't gone in a while but I've met a bunch of great people that way.

Entirely unrelated to work? By connecting with friends of friends. Have your friends bring people to hang out, talk to them, and if you get on then make some individual plans and go from there.
