I sold something on eBay and right after the auction was over, the buyer contacted me asking if they could delay payment until late September because they didn't have the money at the moment. They had placed their bid days before the auction ended. That kind of behavior drives me crazy.

I hope you said no.

I did! They than offered to pay by September 15, so I told them if they didn't pay by eBay official time allotment, than I would open a dispute. They cancelled the order.

God, two weeks later? If it was maybe waiting until the 1st I could understand but that's silly.

Who the hell even bids on stuff they don't have payment for? Like I understand getting carried away and spending too much because it can get addictive, but when you know you can't afford it at all?

This. It's ridiculous.

Right? Sadly, I knew someone who did stuff like this. They were bipolar and had very poor impulse control so they'd spend hundreds of dollars on porcelain "collectibles" off Ebay and then not have enough money to pay their bills. It was sad, but nobody could convince them not to do it. They always had this really logical (to them) reason for why they just HAD to spend $200 on some worthless piece of junk RIGHT NOW.

I hope you said no, too. I don't know what you were selling, but I doubt it was an absolute necessity. People who want to buy random stuff on eBay shouldn't do it if they can't afford it.

I did! It was for a somewhat rare cosplay item, so 100% not a necessity.

That's ridiculous. I don't know why anyone would expect an auction to work like that. If they'd wanted such an arrangement, they should've contacted you BEFORE bidding to see if you'd be amenable to extending the end date or something.
