CW: Mentions of self-harm

(Anonymous) 2017-08-30 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to preface this with how I love my cat. He's sweet and laid back. But he's not a cuddler, which I could really use with how stressful my home situation is (controlling and abusive--my grandfather's housemate literally backed me into a corner once, screaming at me about how I should listen to her and change our entire diet to a much more expensive one because she "only had two years to live"--I was curled up and sobbing and she knew I was already low and contemplating self harm which is why my wife was in the kitchen with me).

So we had one, it was the housemate's daughter's cat that was abandoned. She was a sweet tortie and basically my dream cat. The problem being she was still a kitten, so she has high energy. I kept telling people she needed toys and her not settling down to sleep would fix itself. Instead of housemate getting off her ass, stopping her smoking and drinking and YouTube watching from the time she woke up until about 6PM when she'd go to the bar, she rehomed the cat. Because effort. She didn't even try. And now I no longer have something sweet to curl up with me and help me through anxiety attacks because my cat... Doesn't do that, and his idea of affection is sitting five feet away from you in the same room. It's stupid and petty, but now said housemate is going on and on about how she didn't WANT to give up the cat but she HAD to. Fucking CHRIST, if you'd actually fucking listened to me and GOT THE CAT SOME TOYS, we wouldn't have had to rehome her so you can sit on your lazy goddamned ass, drinking and smoking in the garage all day!

That sucks, man. Some people shouldn't have pets. I'm sorry you're going through that now, and I hope you get better soon.
