I agree and the beginning scene was nowhere near as cool and #1.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-31 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I was okay with the opening scene. Actually, I thought it was one of the best parts of the movie, but then I thought the rest of the movie was weaker than the furst GotG movie.

GotG2 was not good in general, IMHO. The plot was lame and the dialogue was awful.

The plot was trite and typical, even for MCU standards. It's my least favorite movie of the year so far. I have enjoyed Book of Henry more than I enjoyed this movie.

This is objectively and obviously true.

There's a couple real gems in there (Mr Blue Sky, My Sweet Lord, Wham Bam Shang-a-Lang - and Guardians Inferno is surprisingly good, too), but mostly...holy crap is it boring.

I can't stand "My Sweet Lord". It doesn't help that I can't unhear the plagiarized "He's So Fine" melody line.

*shrugs* I still sang along to it.

My only gripe with the soundtrack is when Ego beat the meaning of "Brandy" into everybody's heads, that it nearly ruined the song for me.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-31 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, yes. I cringed hard at the scene where Ego explained the lyrics, it was so painfully "As you know, Bob... " and unnecessary.

I could not agree more, I also thought the plot was much worse and the characterization was off from the first

(Anonymous) 2017-08-30 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. There were a few good songs on soundtrack 2, but otherwise it was pretty meh.

I enjoyed it. It was a more varied style of music, but I didn't find it weak. Favourite scene hands down is still the scene with Come A Little Bit Closer.

I didn't see the second one but I didn't like the soundtrack of the first one that much. I know, I'm evil and I have no sense of fun. But I lived through hearing the Piña Colada song over and over on the radio and I never wanted to sit through it again.

I agree. I did not buy the soundtrack, and I only have one track, Guardians Inferno, on my Ipod. The other tracks just didn't interest me. I still have several from the first one.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-31 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I was sad there wasn't a Bowie song on the soundtrack. :(

(Anonymous) 2017-08-31 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I can't agree. In fact I would say, in terms of song selections, both soundtracks were pretty much equal. I do think the first soundtrack had a better flow, but the second had more variety and the songs were better interwoven into the film.
I also can't agree with what most are saying in this thread. I watched both GOTG movies back to back after I bought the second one, and Vol. 2 is unquestionably the better film. It had all the fun and irreverence of the first movie, but the story and characterizations were deeper and given greater emotional weight. James Gunn really upped his ante, and I hope all future MCU films take a lesson from him.
Now I'm off to go listen to "Father and Son" and bawl like a baby;)

(Anonymous) 2017-08-31 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's definitely different from my take, because while I enjoyed GOTG2, I'm distinctly glad that I hadn't seen the first one in several years and only had vague memories of the characterization. When I went home and rewatched GOTG, all the largely unjustified changes they'd made to some of the characters were suddenly very apparent. Would have ruined my theater experience.

I agree. I enjoyed the movie itself more than #1 though.
