People freaking out about Pratchett's last wishes being carried out yesterday. A hard drive with his unfinished works in progress was crushed under a steam roller under the supervision of his estate manager.

Man, people need to chill. His words, his choice.

It kind of highlights contemporary fandom's obsession with WIP and ephemera and disrespect of craft though.

Oh wow, I read that and just assumed it was a spoof article. But it's his hard work, and if he doesn't want someone mucking it up with ghost writing, his choice.

I guess Terry Pratchett had better luck than Franz Kafka then. Depending on how you look at it.

(But honestly I wouldn't want to see anyone else try to finish something Terry Pratchett started writing.)

Also Vladimir Nabokov.

Oof, I can understand that it hurts to think about losing part of an artist's work, but at the same time I utterly understand and respect that it was his choice not to share.

I love how specific he was about it. Don't just burn them, don't dump them in a landfill like the E.T games, no, they must be CRUSHED BY A STEAMROLLER

I can sort of see how die-hard fans could be upset that they're gone, but I think I'd be unhappier if they weren't. It was exactly what he wanted and it's nice seeing someone's wishes being respected after they're gone.

Someone tried to argue with me that it's irrational to destroy works like that once someone dies because they're dead and it can't affect them and WE COULD BE DESTROYING CULTURAL HERITAGE!!!!!
