To be fair, there's a wide range of age on tumblr. I think that tumblr and livejournal/dreamwidth, etc. are only comparable up to a point. Their purpose are not strictly the same so they're different. For me,it makes no sense to complain about one not being able to fulfill what the other aim's to do. Plus, nobody forces you to use one over the other (and you can use both too) thus I don't think the crankiness is justified one way or another.
