Secretly Sleazy

(Anonymous) 2017-08-31 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So Joss Whedon has just been outed as a sleazy adulterer.

Bill Cosby turned out to be a (likely) serial rapist, despite his clean image.

Who else do you think is a secret sleazebag, despite having a nice/sweet/clean/etc. image?

A lot of people that, frankly, none of us have any way of knowing.

That's one thing I definitely believe - this stuff is endemic in every area of society.

Uhhh I feel like those two things are non-comparable. Cheating on your spouse sucks. But mass rape is kind of another ballpark.

OP

I know they aren't at all equal offenses. The only similarity is that both cases involve someone with a particular image being exposed for bad behavior contrary to that image. That was why I used them as examples.

I'm sure someday Chris Pratt will be outed as a raging homophobe and sexist with strict ideas on gender roles.

why

Re: Secretly Sleazy

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that he's at least somewhat conservative in his political leanings. It's usually the far right-wingers who are the most sexist and homophobic. So...for the purpise of this exercise if you assume Pratt is doing the smart thing and keeping hardcore conservatism under wraps, disguised instead as a gently right-leaning hunting enthusiast 'merican, it's not out of the question to assume that someday that veneer will slip. And if that's true, and it does, sexist homophobe is the logical conclusion.

Rumour has it Ms Farris was making him keep it in check so that he wouldn't tank her career along with his. Now that they split up I'd be interested in seeing how this goes.

Pretty much everyone at this point. There are varying degrees to it of course but no one is perfect.

Precisely.

I'm ok with people being sleazy.

Over some years of nosing around the comments sections on some gossip sites, I've consistently read that Hugh Laurie and Joel McHale are known cheaters.

If it was a handful of one-off comments on only one site, I'd pretty much dismiss it because there's a lot of crap that gets flung around. But in the case of these two, I've seen these statements repeated over several years, on different sites, and at numerous times.

*shrug* Doesn't take away from my personal enjoyment in seeing them onscreen in something I like, but then again, I pretty much never buy into the idea that people are 100% wholesome, either.

Yeah, Hugh Laurie cheated on his wife with an Aussie actress, I think?...

Whoever they are, I hope they keep it to themselves. I'm sick of people telling me I shouldn't like a movie or show because the director or actress or sound guy once said something vaguely not-condemning about some old fuck that diddled a girl in the 70's, or married his daughter, or beat his wife. These are all shitty things and the perpetrators are shitty people, but I don't know any of these people, I never will, I wasn't even born when they committed these crimes, and that has nothing to do with the movie itself.

I just hope it's not Christoph Waltz.
