The SJW Facebook friend I have had went frothing mad about it, saying that LOTF was about "toxic masculinity" and how dare men choose to write about toxic women. like lol.

I'm a feminist, and it's almost for that reason that I think exploring the darkness of humanity with women is interesting. Part of feminism is knowing women have just as much potential to be fucked up assholes as men. And I think being mad that it's written by men is a little bit forced victimization.

That being said, it has a lot of potential to be dumb as fuck, so I'll withhold judgment for now.

Eh, your friend isn't right re: how dare they write about toxic women, but LotF was very much about the socialization of upper class English boys, which certainly plays into toxic masculinity, and it's simply not the same thing as how (especially upper class) girls are socialized-- the situation genuinely wouldn't play out the same way. I'm not saying it wouldn't fall apart and that it wouldn't be dark, but it would be 100% in a different way than the book was written. So just taking all the boys and face-swapping them with girls is lazy and disingenuous.

I made a joke on Twitter about LotF being about toxic masculinity when one of the anti-SJWs I follow posted about it, but I do agree with you that it would be an interesting exercise if it really dug into the dark side of women properly.

But I fear it will just be a face-swap without really looking at how girls would react differently, and how they could devolve into brutality in a female way.
